Welcome!

The Columbia-Area Linux Users Group (CALUG) is a friendly informal group of Columbia-area residents who share an interest in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in general, and Linux in particular. The CALUG meets at 7:00PM on the second Wednesday of each month. Like the software that interests us, our meetings are free - and open to everyone.

Tenable Network Security is extending the courtesy of hosting the CALUG's meetings in its East Columbia office, conveniently located at:

7063 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 100
Columbia, MD 21046

Enter Tenable's building thru the back at the patio with the blue picnic tables.

In addition to generously hosting the CALUG meetings, Tenable Network Security allows CALUG meeting attendees the convenience of wireless Internet access (WiFi, 802.11b/g).

Please join the CALUG at our January 11th meeting for an interesting and practical Introduction to Git presentation by Dale Vogel. Topics Dale will cover include the rationale, history, and approaches to software version control. Dale will explain Git basics, show how Git integrates with the software world, and provide a Git demo.

Git runs over Linux, Mac, and Windows, so bring your laptop computers to the meeting and leave with Git installed and sufficient knowledge to use Git in your daily work.

Dale has worked with computing hardware and software for 20 years. He has designed commercial and non-commercial web sites, developed web applications using PHP/MySQL, and developed custom application software over Linux and Windows platforms since 2006. Dale began using version control software in 2007, starting with Bazaar and moving to Git in 2008. He currently is the Git System Administrator at his current company, and is maintaining a blog to share thoughts on the world of computer hardware, software, and applications, the Internet, and web development.

Meeting attendees are invited to arrive at 6:30PM to enjoy pizza and soda courtesy of Praxis Engineering prior to the 7:00PM presentation - so you do not need to choose between dinner and the fun of a CALUG meeting!

Tenable has a Toys for Tots drop-box. If you are attending the December CALUG meeting and have a new, unwrapped toy that you are planning to donate to Toys for Tots then feel free to bring the toy with you and save a trip.
